On October 25, ISIS announced that its cells in Syria’s central region had targeted a vehicle of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
The terrorist group’s official news agency, Amaq, said that the vehicle was blown up with an improvised explosive device as it was passing on a road near Tabqah Air Base in the southern countryside of Raqqa on October 24. The attack didn’t result in any casualties.
In the last few months, ISIS cells in central Syria turned the southern Raqqa countryside into their main stronghold in the region.
Between June and July, the SAA and the Russian Aerospace Forces killed dozens of ISIS terrorists in the course of several operations in the southern countryside of Raqqa. This was not apparently enough to keep the terrorist group out from the area for too long.
Russian warplanes are hitting ISIS cells in the southern Raqqa countryside, especially around the town of Resafa, on regular basis. The terrorist group’s hideouts in the area were hit on several occasions this months.
ISIS cells are likely trying to maintain a strong presence in the southern Raqqa countryside because of its proximity to Syria’s northeastern region. The terrorists may be receiving support from their comrades in areas held by the U.S.-led coalition and its proxy, the Syrian Democratic Forces.
