On August 2, ISIS cells in Syria’s central region launched another attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a London-based pro-opposition monitoring group, said that the terrorists attacked several military positions near the town of Madan Atiq in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor. No losses were reported.
ISIS cells increased their activities in central Syria in recent weeks. On July 29, the terrorists abducted three sheepherders, stole 400 sheep and set a tractor on fire during an attack near Madan.
The terrorists’ activists were not however limited to the western Deir Ezzor countryside. On July 31, the terrorists ambushed an oil shipment of the government in the eastern Hama countryside. Six tankers were destroyed and seven people were killed in the attack.
According to a recent report by the SOHR, 369 people have been killed in Syria’s central region since the start of the year. The casualties include 192 soldiers of the SAA and pro-government fighters, 20 ISIS terrorists and 157 civilians.
The monitoring group said that the terrorist group carried out 35 attacks in the eastern Homs countryside, ten in the southern Raqqa countryside, 41 in the western and southern countryside of Deir Ezzor, 15 in the eastern Hama countryside and three in the southern Aleppo countryside this year.
ISIS cells in central Syria are likely receiving support from their comrades in the northeastern region and the southeastern area of al-Tanf, which are controlled by the United States-led coalition and its proxies. The terrorist group’s insurgency in the region will not likely end any time soon.
