On April 11, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) resumed its combat operations against ISIS cells in Syria’s central region.
Russian warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on the terrorist group’s hideouts in the following areas:
- The outskirts of the town of al-Sukhanh in eastern Homs;
- The administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor;
- The Ithriyah road in eastern Hama.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, ISIS cells sustained some serious losses as a result of the Russian airstrikes. Many caves and dens, where terrorists used to take shelter, were wiped out.
Syrian government forces are currently carrying out several combing operations in the central region. In spite of this, ISIS cells are still active in the region. On April 11, a fighter of the Palestinian al-Quds Brigade was killed by terrorists near al-Sukhnah.

The VKS support has been vital to the success of recent operations against ISIS in Syria’s central region. Hundreds of terrorists countinue to operate in the region, mainly in the Homs desert between Homs and Deir Ezzor.
Russian airstrikes kill 29 IS militants in Syrian desert
DAMASCUS, April 6 (Xinhua) — A total of 29 Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed over the past 72 hours by Russian airstrikes in the Syrian desert region, a war monitor reported on Tuesday. The Russian warplanes carried out around 70 airstrikes over the past 72 hours on positions of the IS militants in the desert region in the central province of Hama and the eastern Deir al-Zour province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The death toll could likely rise due to the number of critically wounded militants, the Britain-based watchdog group added.
After losing key areas across Syria, the IS militants now have a presence in the sprawling desert region in eastern Syria.
The militants frequently carry out attacks and ambushes against Syrian government forces in the desert, prompting the Syrian and Russian warplanes to strike their positions.

No, the estimate is rather conservative. Probably more than 900. Another source reported 1100 killed and another put the figure 1000 so 900 is rather conservative.

They need to kill them faster than they are produced. Bombing ISIS in eastern Syria is like cleaning sh!t on a bathroom floor while more shiet continues to spill over non stop from a clogged toilet, which is in this case, al Tanf.
Yes, the goal here isn’t to actually defeat ISIS for now but rather quell their forces and keep them from launching attacks against the SAA in the province. Syria would need nearly all of their available forces to clear out the entire desert of ISIS along with air support and UAVS. Such an operation is not possible at the moment.
