ISIS claimed on April 22 that its cells had killed or injured eleven Iraqi service members in a new ambush in the western province of al-Anbar.
In a short statement released the Amaq news agency, the terrorist group said its fighters ambushed a military convoy near the area of Kilo 160, west of the city of al-Anbar, on the eve of April 21.
“Nine soldiers of the Iraqi military were killed and two others were injured, yesterday, two military vehicles were also destroyed and a third was damaged,” the statement reads.
Iraqi sources confirmed that the military was engaged in heavy clashes with ISIS cells near Kilo 160, a day earlier. However, the sources didn’t report any casualties among Iraqi military personnel.
Earlier this month, ISIS cells attacked a military position in western al-Anbar, near the town of Rutba. Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and another was injured. Back then, Iraqi government forces responded with a large-scale security operation.
Western al-Anbar is one of ISIS’ original strongholds in Iraq. Government forces will need more time and efforts to put an end to the terrorist group’s presence there.
Yawn. These guys still around?
Yes, they do have some “night territory” there. How many all are estimated. Last I saw numbers the estimate we 2-3.000 and non fighting helpers.
And the purpose of their pitiful existence is what now exactly?
Gone are the glory days for ISIS in Syria, so they have moved to Iraq, Libya and Africa to try their luck. ISIS are reduced to bandit status in the ME and their remaining days are numbered, everywhere.
thank God and SAA, russia, IRGC, hezb for that
