Illustrative image.

ISIS cells in the Middle East, South Asia, Central and East Africa carried out 74 successful assassinations in the first third year of the current Islamic year which started on August 20, an infographic released by the terrorist group’s al-Nabaa newspaper on December 3 revealed.

According to al-Nabaa, the assassinations took place in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Mozambique and Somalia.

The assassinations claimed the lives of 99 people, summarized as follows:

  • One Syrian military service member;
  • 17 members of the Syrian Democratic Forces;
  • Eight fighters of Iraqi pro-government Shiite forces;
  • 32 fighters of the Taliban and members of the former Afghan government;
  • Seven Pakistani policemen;
  • Three Sikhs and Hindus civilians;
  • 18 Mozambican military service members and Christian civilians;
  • Five Somali policemen.

Al-Nabaa infographic reflects how ISIS have been working to expand its operations in south Asia and several parts of Africa.

Since its raise in 2014, ISIS relied heavily on assassinations as a low-cost tactic to deplete and intimidate its enemies as well as to raise the morale of its supports.
