ISIS has claimed responsibility for a recent bombing which killed two people and wounded ten others in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province.

The bombing, which took place on June 2, targeted a convoy of Afghan security forces in the area of Bargeno in Jalalabad’s PD4 district.

ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, claimed that eight Afghan service members were killed and three others were wounded in the bombing. Nevertheless, these claims were denied by Afghan sources, which reported the death of two civilians only.

“There are no reports of security force member casualties in the blast yet,” Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for Nangarhar governor, told the TOLO News TV.

Amaq shared a video of the attack, which was carried out with a booby-trapped car. The footage leaves no doubt about ISIS responsibility.

ISIS revealed that its cells were behind a number of explosions which had rocked the Afghan cities of Kabul, Jalalabad and Parwan over the last few days. The terrorist group said that many “Shiites” were killed in these attack.

On June 3, four civilians, including two women, were killed and four others were wounded in a blast in Kabul city. ISIS cells were likely behind the attack.

In the last few months, the terrorist group has stepped up its attacks on government forces and civilians in different parts of Afghanistan. The ongoing withdrawal of US troops from the country has not impacted the group’s activities.
