On Thursday, the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group carried out deadly bombings in the eastern part of Mosul, using a security loophole, as the Iraqi forces failed to scrutinize a fake funeral organized by terrorists, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights reported on Friday.

According to reports, the attacks took place in the area of Kokjali, which was declared liberated from the IS two months ago, and were carried out with three booby-trapped vehicles, driven by IS suicide bombers. As a result of the attacks, at least 30 people, including Iraqi soldiers, were killed, and 60 others were wounded.

It was unclear how the terrorists managed to enter the area, until the rights commission provided its report.

“The group utilized army forces’ failure to search a fake funeral they set on from the neighboring, IS-held al-Quds district,” a statement of the commission reads. According to the statement, attendants of the mock procession claimed that they were heading for burial at a local cemetery in Kokjali. After this, terrorists drove their bomb-laden vehicles and exploded them on a popular market, which was full of shoppers.

The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights called on the Iraqi security forces for caution in order to defeat plots of the IS, aimed against civilians, who return to the liberated areas of Mosul city.
