ISIS fighters killed and captured a number of Syrian service members in two hit and run attacks in the eastern Homs countryside over the last few days, according to the terrorist group’s new agency, Amaq.
In the first attack, which occurred on April 29, ISIS fighters ambushed a unit of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) east of the city of al-Sukhnah killing three service members and capturing two others. The fate of the captured soldiers is yet to be revealed.

A day later, ISIS fighters ambushed a vehicle transporting supplies for SAA troops in the area of Aatchane. The vehicle’s driver, an SAA soldier, was captured than executed by the terrorists.

These attacks were apparently launched from the Homs desert, where hundreds of ISIS highly-experienced, well-armed ISIS fighters are reportedly hiding. Recent reports claim that the terrorist group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, is also taking shelter there.
Since the beginning of April, ISIS fighters have launched several successful hit and run attacks from their positions in the Homs desert killing and injuring dozens of Syrian service members. Despite this, the SAA has not taken any action yet, likely due to the increasing tension around the northern governorate of Idlib.
Thats consecuence of bad comanders&officers, bad tactics and poor training troops…instead of build a ring of well trained troops around ISIS caves to avoid that they can move and launch attacks… therefore ISIS can easily move in Homs desert and ambush supply convoys…

Syrian and Russian defence ministries don’t wanna eliminate these remaining Jews/ISIS in Homs and Deir Ezzor. They wanna give some part of Syria to them as charity.
I see the SAA is still quite incompetent. You’d think that after so many years of war they will learn.
After the Sochi agreement,syrian government is in serious trouble.The expected campaign in Idlib has cancelled,but also they cannot move any troops to the desert against ISIS!But this land is syrian and f@cking russians must respect that and stop playing games with the blood of syrian soldiers on their hands…
Don’t these SAA units that keep getting ambushed carry guns?!! Everytime these ambushes are reported, there is no mention of any Daesh casualties! Or are we meant to believe that the SAA engage in gunfights but manage not to kill any Daesh fighters because Daesh fighters are completely invincible and impervious to bullets!
These units are not the elite units of the Syrian army…. It strikes me as no surprise that they are such easy prey for those damn terrorists I’m that desert. It’s fucking embarrassing really.
Isis has sympathizers who supply them with intel on regular SAA patrol movements numbers and strengths, then they ambush the SAA with overpowering forces, that parts easy to explain, the hard part is, why doesn’t Assad do something decisive to stop it continuing, like hunt them all down with overpowering SAA and Russian forces. Isis used to be very forthcoming with accurate casualty figures, but not anymore, not since they’ve been losing badly they haven’t, being honest now would just make the low Isis morale even worse. When they were winning territory, reporting Isis fighters deaths was like a rallying call to Isis sympathizers, and it worked well, but now that they’re losing, reporting accurate casualty figure would do exactly the opposite, scare them off.
Thanks for the explanation. Makes a lot of sense! However, I’m afraid I must disagree with you as to your comments regarding Daesh losing. I don’t really think they are and reckon it’s only a matter of time before they start to reclaim territory again based on what we know about the current situation in this area and especially now that Al-Baghdadi has re-emerged. It will only influence them to recruit more and get stronger. Of course, I’m no expert and I may be completely wrong!
You’re welcome, I’m referring to their loss of territory only, as to their ideological appeal, that’s still a problem, but that’s taken a bit of a hit too, as well as their overall morale, so the reappearance of the head head-chopper may not be as much of morale booster as we may be worried about. A lot of Isis sympathizers who first thought Isis sounded like a good idea have now changed their minds, now they’ve seen the reality of what Isis actually delivers to its followers as well as the infidels. I don’t think they have a chance in hell of regaining any territory from either the SAA or the SDF, but they can make everyone’s life a misery, at least until something decisive is done to eradicate them. Funny how ISIS always pops up when non-ISIS islamists are getting attacked.
It’s a consequence of huge erratic strategy and awful evaluation by Syrian Army and Russian Forces adopted during late 2017. They left a secured sanctuary for ISIS in central desert and now are suffering hundread losses. It was possible avoid If hadn’t stooped operations against DAESH. The iranian militias are weak and bad trained. The result is a great number of casualties dialy.
What I don’t understand is why these areas aren’t monitored 24/7 by thermal imaging cameras to detect where these rats are coming out from? Surely they must have regular supplies of food and shelter?
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is taking shelter in Turkey close to the Syrian border in a nice townhouse, or maybe in Al Tanf near the refugee camp at Rukban, because the last place I can imagine him sheltering is in the desolate areas of Homs. As some experts have pointed out, look at how fat and unfit he looks, and how pale his skin is, not the look of a man doing it hard out in the hot Syrian sun, but in saying that, living in a cave 24/7 might account for his look, but only if he had access to plenty of food. No I don’t think he’s in Homs or Al Tanf at all, I’m sure he’s staying at a good friends house in Turkey somewhere.
