ISIS fighters repelled an attack of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies on their positions in the heavily fortified area of al-Safa, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported on October 10. According to the terrorist group, five soldiers of the SAA were killed and several others were injured during the failed attack.
A source in the SAA told SouthFront that the SAA’s 9th and 14th Divisions carried out a limited attack on positions of ISIS in the heart of al-Safa. However, the attack failed due to the effective resistance from ISIS fighters, according to the source.
A day earlier, the al-Suwayda 24 blog reported that the SAA killed an ISIS suicide bomber who attempted to blow himself up at a position of the SAA around al-Safa. The Syria-based blog also noted that the battles in the volcanic area slowed down over the last few days.
The SAA launched a large-scale military operation between the Damascus desert and northern al-Suwayda in early August in order to free around 30 civilian hostages who were abducted by ISIS during its attack on several villages on July 25. However, the SAA has not been able to rescue the hostages yet.
Why don’t they gas the area and get it over with, there is no one but ISIS there and desert rocks, the world wont care one bit, and no one should know either. It’ll be a win win game. Soldier’s lives who have families are at stake.
Not gas but carpet bombing needed to get rid of them
Carpet bombing wont work the area is too vast and they can hide underground. Only gas can penetrate rocks and hideouts and either flush them out or neutralize them.
MI6 perchance or are you from Porton Downs ?
Good fighters anyhow.
Hostages rescued: 0. Syrian soldiers killed: more than the number of hostages.
This offensive has been a failure.
TOOOO slow, something is wrong with SAA tactic. Let Russian generals to take the lead on this.
Are these the wpmen and children from Christian villages that were kidnapped?
Please, put a Russian general in charge there. It looks like Syria generals do not know what to do.
