The SDF confirmed in its daily press release that its fighters had made a significant advance in the Euphrates Valley and killed more than 71 ISIS terrorists. However, the US-backed group said that the clashes are still ongoing in the area.

US-led coalition warplanes continued their operations against the remaining ISIS positions between the towns of Baghuz Fawqani and al-Ulay’at. According to the SDF press center, more than 104 airstrikes targeted positions, vehicles and gatherings of the terrorist group in the last 24 hours.

Local sources said that thousands of civilians are currently fleeing the ISIS-held pocket in the Euphrates Valley. The remaining terrorist group positions are expected to collapse in the upcoming few days, if not hours.

It stretches the boundaries of credible belief to think the SDF would engage this far south of their territory just as the Turks are massing at the northern border. Americans want to deny Syria her oil fields.

Tom Tom

Yes, they want to create their new Sunni-stan on the north/east bank of the Euphrates, to serve as the bulwark against the Iranians for the Saudi’s/Israeli’s, their plan from the beginning in Iraq. I don’t think it will work as their next move will be to take the western half of Iraq.

PZIVJ

I was also wondering about this. But I think the southern SDF units are mostly Arab, and not Kurdish. :)

Jens Holm

SDFs kurds never asked for this. The few DEZ arabs got support by the other arabs, and so be it.

As we se those DEZ arabs has had no joining support from there and has not been strong enough ro acimplish mush even helped well by others and especially by air and artilley support.

Smaller groups of “non arabs” has helped too.The same goes for north of the river.

Some here fo forget, that those forces actually has taken all north of that pocket and it was defended hard.

PZIVJ

Time are changing in Syria for the new year. :)) Also reports that Iraqi PMU are also pushing on this this pocket from the east. So this ISIS pocket will be gone in short time. Daesh attack ability is no more. Reports from Manbij: waiting for US to pull out, and SAA moving up close and Erdogan making threats to advance. WOW !

Jens Holm

Iraqien being the heavy stuff has helped and helps well to close for Iraq.

SAAs are nothing.

Jens Holm

All that is already well decribed for years. Read that.

Thunder

that won’t be allowed the borders will remain as before the war

Ronald

Agreed, Assad will declare all of Syria a no fly zone after US troops leave. These oil fields will be Syrian again.

MichaH

These pictures are supposed to prove something, it is a lot of rusty scrap, mainly military unusable garbage.

The image with the PKMs and that derivative of an SG44 seems familiar to me, but who knows…

BMWA1

Incl. an old (WW2 era) German assault rifle missing the stock. A veritable cornucopia of military material. I see you saw that too.

Jens Holm

And if the alternative is bow and arrow :)

DenLilleAbe

You are right. :) A StG 44.

Jens Holm

If its from ISIS, it shows a lot. 1) Its left and not taken with them 2) I certaiinly see most of it as inversive recycling 3) Ammo in many boxes are what ? Well, they can be empty true and 4) Tell ISIS are low or try to tell that. Ots true we lately havent heard much about RPGs.

DenLilleAbe

Agree. Abandoned or discarded materiel, most of it damaged heavily by fire. Hardly worth recycling the steel.

Jon Gruntha

Twitter propaganda even the SDF didn’t confirm. They only captured large parts of Baghuz Tahtani.

Jens Holm

Well, my information is as good as Yours. I will say You might be right. Good Information is low.

My hope could be the geografi is because ISIS are in the last phase named hit and run… hope.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

The Iraqi’s have pulled their ground troops back to their side of the border and are just assisting with artillery now, the Arab/Christian SDF have taken up the old Iraqi PMU positions just east of the Iraqi border, and managing on their own at last. This pocket has lasted 6 months or more, ridiculous. For the first 4 months the Kurdish SDF just stalled on retaking it and left it to fester. But back in January before any of this happened, Trump started recruiting non Kurds into the SDF to replace/assist them, and by May/June Trump thought he had enough replacements and sent them to Hajin to fight. The Kurds stood back and just watched, but it became apparent that the new SDF were not up to the task and the Iraqis started helping out to take up the slack. Trump then started a recruiting overdrive, and by November/December, had nearly 20,000 non Kurdish SDF along with the 35,000 Kurdish SDF he already had. He sent 17,000 SDF to Hajin, which apparently gave him the numbers he needed to start taking back the area, but I wonder how many of the 17,000 SDF fighting at Hajin are actually Kurdish, not many I’ll bet, most of them will be from the 20,000 non Kurdish SDF and not Kurds at all. The Kurds have been heading north and east for the last few months, and they’ve apparently been working out how to confront the Turks alongside Assad, that wouldn’t have given them any time to fight Isis at Hajin, they were busy putting plan B into action.
