ISIS Launches Large Counter-Attack Against Syrian Army In Western Deir Ezzor

ISIS fighters remaining in the Homs desert launched a large counter-attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and recaptured a wide area in the western Deir Ezzor countryside, the pro-government blog al-Masdar News reported on September 16.

A source in the SAA told the blog that the SAA was forced to withdraw from all the recently liberated areas when ISIS fighters managed to penetrate its defense. According to the source, at least nine soldiers and one officer of the SAA were killed by the terrorist group.

A day earlier, Syrian pro-government activists and the tribal force of the National Defense Forces (NDF) claimed that the SAA cleared the entire region between the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway and the road linking the T-2 and T-3 stations. The new ISIS counter attack confirms that these claims are false.

The SAA, backed by the Russian Aerospace Forces, launched a military operation to clear the ISIS-held pocket in the Homs desert on September 9. During the first few days the SAA achieved a notable progress. However, it appears that a lack of manpower on this fornt affected the SAA operation.

As I said last year, the Tigers should have stayed in Deir ez Zor to clean up the whole desert, but the SAA didn’t want it, now it’s suffering the consequences. These terrorists will sneak through the weak SAA lines and spread terrorism to Syria and to other nations, killing many innocent people.

Jens Holm

There we go again. Most of them already are in Syria and many are locals as well. You are as they cheat by not suing passports :)

Richard M

FUKUS, Zios and Wahhabis keeping their puppet Orcs well supplied and reinforced.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

this area needs some airstrikes STAT!!!!

Ed

Oh yes. Because airstrikes have really helped so far!!

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

they have not?

Ed

Well, Daesh have kept attacking haven’t they?

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

Yes but that’s not the fault of airstrikes. FUKUS delivers airstrikes sometimes too but SAA keeps attacking :))

Jens Holm

Hard for me to compare.

They have totally different agendas and therefore also very different jobs.

As descriebed above its how You attack and also about terrain and why, and what You can expect.

But You have to have targets.

Ace

What remains of them.

Jens Holm

Not as we see You describe it.

Jens Holm

It make no sense,if there are no visible targets.

Rodney Loder

While the Kurds are inviting the Yanks and the Yanks are inviting the Terrorists this will go on indefinitely, the Kurds are the weakest link and easiest to break, with the help of Brother Erdogan.

Tudor Miron

Same as before this temporary daesh success would not last for long.

I remember a SF article not that long ago that triumphantly said that all ISIS hiding places were known. And I said then how come ISIS is still active there and can still launch attacks against the SAA? And I was right. Apparently the SAA and RuAF cannot keep an eye on the whole desert and apparently ISIS can still gather and mass sufficient forces to launch nuisance attacks.

On the plus sides, if the rats have concentrated they’re also easier to attack and destroy. Maybe things are not that dire after all. Better that they gather then that they scatter.

Jens Holm

Hiding places should be understood as big areas, where they are systematicly hidden having many depotes and important stuff such as communication and coordination.

Feudalism Victory

The scourge of fake news is everywhere. Cant trust official russian or syrian broadcasts? Unbelievable!

Barba_Papa

I NEVER trust official statements from any government or organization. They’re all trying to spin something. Governments have been releasing fake news since governments were invented.

Jens Holm

The author as well as most down here still deny to learn how ISIS are figting. You even blame SAA and Co for lying, but SAA as well as You remain the same no learning center.

SAA dont lie. They know nothing better then they tell You. SAA only lie a lot about their losses as well as how many(few) ISIS are to look better.

SAA has made good progress, but the losses are devastating. As proposed before Assad could make peace with Natanyahuh importaing 5-600.000 new spendables from the West Bank. It does not matter who gets killed for him and his Bathists a long as bars and diskotekes are open i their areas as always.

Svimmingpools are still full in Aleppo. Dont worry, be happy.

Jens Holm

There was no lack of manpower. Well, I dont know this time.

I often see SAA as some slow elephant not connected to the rest of the world, and ISIS around it with little knives.

The army group from trhe beginning have no extra supply as well as the supply line is not covered by good mobile troops. The SAA is not made for that kind of war at all and dont understand they have to be organized almost as the ISIS guerilla-Infantery being highly mobile(SDFs mainly are, because they have learned from Guerilla by PKK).

There is no front. THERE IS NO FRONT. On the maps You only see, where SAA are. That hardly say anything about where ISIS are, if they are there or has been.

The best targets for ISIS often are made strongholds, if they are not totally covered. Thats where SAA are sitting targets for fx snipers. Second best is traps, where SAA meet som resistence on their socalled front and ISIS retreat classic through minefields – and sudden – ISIsattack them comming up from well covered fox holes along their cortege.

SAA probatly feet those ISIS by that too. But thats never mentioned by the Great Commanders of Damaskus.

ISIS out there could be 50-100 taking back the area from 500-1000 SAA stupidists.
