Support SouthFront

ISIS released more photos of military equipment, weapons and munition that the group seized from the Turkish Armed Forces and pro-Turkey militant groups near the Syrian city of al-Bab earlier today (click to see more details).

ISIS terrorists seized at least two Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks, one ACV-15 vehicle, a buldozer and lots of various munition used by Turkish forces.

Photos confirm that Turkish forces suffered a major defeat near al-Bab.

No bodies? or is this another case of arming them? I find it hard to believe that Turkey is not able to take a town the size of Al-bab!

Scott Miller

Al Bab is not a small village and city fighting is always tough – especially for heavy mech units whose forte is fighting in the open countryside. In built-up areas, they lose their advantages and battles tend to become attritional struggles where the defenders have an advantage. This is why the siege of Aleppo took so long to resolve and why the Eastern Alliance is avoiding a premature dash into Mosul.

gold37

I understand that, I get the difficulties faced; however, the command and control in that area has been moved to Al-Kafsah a while back (SE of Al-Bab). Daesh does not have freedom of movement as they did before, yet they still aren’t able to the town? Something is fishy here, Iv’e seen footages of this war for over 5 years, this is the only battle where it just doesn’t seem right. Urban warfare is tough, but its only urban if you get into the city. I guess Daesh gives Erdogan a reason to invade!

funebrero1936

I think the turk/turds are waiting the SDF take Al bab from the west before them, because they know that there are many ISIS fighters with hard experience in the urban fight that have escaped from the Manbij (battle)….up to here the “euphrates shield” have reached their initial mission that is : stop the kurds

SnowCatzor

SDF won’t bother moving on Al Bab while the Turkish-led jihadists are there. They’re probably quite happy to just let them and ISIS kill each other for a while. Because while the Turk/FSA are bogged-down around Al Bab, the SDF can move closer to Raqqa.

Scott Miller

I don’t see the advantage to the Turks of intentionally losing a skirmish. It’s hard to tell an army to go out and lose on purpose and not have word get out. It’s just too conspiratorial for me. I suspect the simple truth is that the Turks took ISIS for granted and thought they would have an easy win with ISIS concentrating around Palmyra/Tyas. It was a calculated risk but one that didn’t play out as expected and the Turkish soldiers paid the price for poor reconnaissance, intel, and planning at the brigade and higher level.

Airtorn Mentha

I think the same

Hanny Benny

You don’t see the video of the 2 turkish soldiers burned alive ?!?

Jackson

Captured tanks had been marked by the UAVs and hit by TuAF F-16s shortly after

Bora Yüret

Turkey will take Al-bab, be sure. Turkish special forces are in Al-bab, not the real army. And this is war, you can’t know where the enemy will attack. But if ISIS is strong enough to resist, why did they wait until Al-bab? These are the aces in the hole for ISIS.

And understand that, Turkey’s aim is not to occupy Syrian land, but to prevent DUP to capture that fields. DUP is a terrorist organization, and USA uses one terrorist organization to fight another. Turkey didn’t choose that way, Turkey preferred to fight himself.

We can talk again in a week. You willl see that Turkish army has no jokes!

gold37

An invasion is an invasion dude, we will speak in a week again and Al-bab will still be in DAESH hands, why? because Turkey is not interested in taking Al-Bab. A NATO force can’t even take a small city, wow!

Bora Yüret

If an invasion is an an invasion, what does USA do in Mosul? USA’s Saddam move created this terror atmosphere. ISIS was bombing Turkey’s border cities from that Syrian land. So Turkey had to step in.

And, there are lots of cities from Turkey border to Al-Bab. Turkey passed all over them. If Turkish army didn’t mind damaging civilian people, Al-Bab could be taken now. But we will talk again soon…

PZIVJ1943

An upgrade to Leorpard 2A4 fom old T-55. This must be like early X-mas present for ISUS!! I wounder if it came with a full compliment of rounds. They may need to capture an ammo truck next

John Whitehot

ISIS is stockpiling a nice pool of modern tanks. After the Iraki M1 Abramses, now Leo-2s. Let’s send in Brits with Challies and Frenchs with Leclercs!

Χωριανοπουλος ο Αντιτζογαδορος

they say they lost it after 6 hours

Airtorn Mentha

Yep, good toys from daddy erdogan

SnowCatzor

Fortunately modern MBT’s like the Leopard II, M1 Abrams, T-90 etc are too complex for militia groups to actually operate. That’s why you’ll never see terrorists actually operating anything more modern than a T-72.

Whilst certainly embarrassing for the Turkish Army, they won’t have to worry about them being used against them. They’re little more than trophy’s for ISIS, and will almost certainly just be blown up to prevent them from being recovered.

All the other gear however, maybe quite useful for ISIS.

First Lastname

Yes, I’m sure the Sukhois will be all over that armor, just like they blasted many of the Iraqi/US gifts.

SnowCatzor

What I mean is, ISIS have probably blown the tanks up already. So Sukhoi’s will not have to anyway.

First Lastname

Yes, I understood, I meant to say IF ISIS doesn’t do it themselves.

First Lastname

Would I be wrong in saying that maybe Turkey deserves to fall for a few VBIEDs for invading Syria? I don’t support ISIS obviously, but Turkey has no right to invade a sovereign nation…

SnowCatzor

I certainly won’t be crying about it, if it weren’t for the civilians caught in the crossfire I’d find the whole situation laughable. Scum vs Scum.

Cerys Davis

The Sukhois spent their time blowing up hospitals and refugee convoys…easier to count babies and mothers as “terrorists” then to actually try to fight real terrorists like Turkey. Remember Russia had a real tough time in Chechnya….Russia isn’t very competent in fighting actual terrorists

First Lastname

You read too much Fake News. Turn off the BBC, CNN, AP Reuters and other US government run Fake News sites.

sagbotgamot

You mean you were not around when the CIA and US military advisers from the Pentagon trained those terrorists. For all you know, there never was actual encounter between the Turkish army and the ISIS but a simple military hardware turnover ceremony.

PZIVJ1943

I assume that these MBT’s are user friendly to the drivers, but the fire control system takes much training. ISUS may be able to drive them away as war trophies and experiment with them. Can the ballistic computer be bypassed and gun used with optical sights only? They don’t need to fire at long range against enemy tanks. But not having a supply of ammo is a problem. Unless they can get Turkish supplies!

SnowCatzor

They aren’t really going to be very useful except maybe (I stress ‘maybe’) as VBIED’s, although I’m not certain if ISIS would even be able to drive them. To my knowledge, the fire control systems require specialized crews to operate, you can’t just jump in and start shooting. I doubt very much that any kind of bypass is going to work, let alone be worth the effort for a handful of tanks.

As VBIED’s they would be virtually unstoppable unless the enemy were well-prepared to intercept them with ATGM’s or other heavy Armour.

PZIVJ1943

The captured ACV-15 is probably being converted into VBIED in garage near Al Bab. ISUS #1 weapon is surprise attack. Glad to see FSA and ISUS are in battle, and SAA is just waiting it out. I think that all MBT guns are fitted with basic optics to hit target. Isreal forces used this practice in 1967 (what you see, is what you hit). They ignored ballistic computer and used exposed tank commander to spot buttoned up enemy tanks (first hits, first kills). The Arab armored forces where decimated!

PZIVJ1943

You are right about fire control system. I forgot about the gyros that control both gun and turret. To hit a target on the move.

John Whitehot

if they have some complacent Iraki officer showing them how it works they are more than able to lay fire precisely. The more modern is a tank, the easier is to hit targets, only if the crew is trained of course.

John Whitehot

I mostly agree, but then somebody oughta explain who’s operating the M1 abramses captured from Irak by ISIS we saw in countless vids

Jackson

These tanks had been marked by the UAVs and hit by TuAF F-16s shortly after getting captured.

Airtorn Mentha

Maybe this equipment has been delivered to isis by their sponsors. Who knows

Michael

Poor Estrogen. He has launched another misadventure. The way things are going south he may have to wait longer to be the sultan.

AMHants

It just looks like a White Helmet, video?
