On November 15, ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, released photos showing a recent training camp of the terrorist group in Somalia.

The camp, whose location was not revealed, was named after Adnan Abu Walid al-Sahrawi, former leader of ISIS in the Greater Sahara. The terrorist, a Moroccan citizen, was killed in a French drone strike on Mali’s In-Delimane sometime between August 20 and 22.

The photos released by Amaq shows dozens of ISIS’ new recruits preforming physical exercises, training on close combat tactics and first aid at the camp.

ISIS branch in Somalia, commonly known as Abnaa ul-Calipha, is mainly active in the northeastern state of Puntland. Galgala mountains are considered the heartland of the terrorist group. The group carried out several terrorist attacks in different parts of Somalia, including the capital Mogadishu.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen have been in conflict with ISIS in Somalia since it first emerged in 2015.

Somalian government forces are not making enough efforts to crop the influence of the group, who appears to be preparing to expand its operations in the country.
