ISIS has resumed its operations in the Libyan desert and attacked a checkpoint of the Libyan National Army (LNA) in central Libya, according to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq.
Amaq claimed that 21 LNA members were killed as a result of the Wednesday attack that took place in the al-Fouqafah area south of Sirt city. Following the ISIS withdrawal, the LNA retook area.
In December 2016, ISIS officially lost its last stronghold in Libya, the city of Sirt, and almost all its members withdrew to the desert area in southern and central Libya.
Media rumors are circulating that ISIS may cooperate with other radical groups operating in Libya preparing to launch a new offensive in order to take back the city of Sirte.
