On July 17, ISIS news agency, Amaq, shared footage of a failed attack on a tanker moving oil from fields held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeastern Syria to government-held areas.
The tanker was attacked by ISIS terrorists near the town of al-Karamah in the eastern countryside of al-Raqqa on July 16.
Amaq footage show that the attack was a complete failure. ISIS terrorists failed to stop the tanker and most of their bullets missed.
The targeted tanker is allegedly owned by the Katerji Group, a Syrian company that ships oil from northeastern Syria oil fields, which are all held by the SDF, to the Damascus government. The company was sanctioned by the US in 2018 for “trading in oil with ISIS”.
This was not the first such attack. On June 29, ISIS terrorists targeted a convoy of tankers moving oil to government held areas in the eastern Raqqa countryside. Five tankers were damaged as a result of the attack.
ISIS is apparently attempting to disturb oil supplies from northeastern Syria to the areas held by the Damascus government.
The terrorist group began targeting oil shipments heading to government-held areas two years ago, around the same time the US tightened its sanctions on Damascus.

So the Syrian government are buying their own oil from a bunch of US backed terrorists,what they should do is bomb those oil fields until they liberate them.
This has been ongoing ever since the kurds took control of the oil. It is sold back to Damascus, to Turkey and even sunni tribes loyal to ISIS. One reason why Damascus only attacked the oil tankers a few times. And with the US protecting the fields, Assad and Russia dont want to risk a direct attack on the fields.
The still few small scale Iranian linked attacks are no serious threat anyway. And Assad will have to make a deal with the Kurds anyhow sooner or later when the US will pull out to fight back the Turks. Kurds and Assad always had contact and collaborated more or less, and they are seen as citizens of Assad. The focus now is on the economic crisis and the Turks and their jihadis anyway. And ISIS resurgence of course. Bombing the fields to be totally cut of from oil would let Assad risk to loose support in pro gov aeras. And escalate with US and Kurds at a time when Turkey and ISIS get bolder and bolder. This game will play out for many years to come sadly. Patience is needed like Afgannistan shows..
