On January 7, ISIS’ Amaq news agency released photos from a recent attack by the terrorist group’s wing in Nigeria, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The attack, which took place on January 3, targeted a base of the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) located near the town of Gombi in the northeastern state of Borno. ISWAP terrorists managed to storm the base after minor clashes.

According to Amaq, two service members of the NAF were killed in the attack. Before withdrawing, ISWAP terrorists set the base on fire.

On the same day, ISWAP terrorists stormed a camp of the NAF located in the town of Marti in Borno following a successful attack with a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. Amaq shared photos from the attack on January 5.

ISWAP continues to spread its radical ideology with much success in Nigeria’s northeastern region, mainly in the states of Borno and Yobe.

The terrorist group insurgency in the region will not likely end anytime soon. Nigerian government forces appear to be incapable of confronting the terrorist group, especially in the areas bordering Lake Chad.

So they attacked an “Nigerian Army base”. It looks like their idea of an “army base” was just a couple shacks with tin metal roofing.
