On November 24, ISIS’s official news agency, Amaq, released photos documenting a daring raid that was recently carried out by one of the terrorist group’s cells in the northern Iraqi province of Kirkuk.
The raid, which took place on November 19, targeted a position of the Iraqi military in al-Dibis district in the northwestern Kirkuk countryside.
ISIS terrorists infiltrated the position then shot and killed four service members who were still asleep. The terrorists seized four assault rifles, a machine gun, small quantities of ammunition and other military equipment before withdrawing back to their hideout.

The Iraqi military has opened an investigation into the deadly raid. Several intelligence officers in Kirkuk are reportedly being questioned for neglect.
ISIS cells in Kirkuk have been benefiting from a territorial dispute between the Iraqi federal government the regional government in Kurdistan that left some parts of the province unguarded. Governor Rakan Saeed al-Jubouri called after the raid in al-Dibis to close all the gaps with security forces.
Iraqi government forces stepped up their operations against ISIS cells in Kirkuk in the last few months. Just two days after the al-Dibis raid, a series of Iraqi pinpoint airstrikes hit hideouts of the terrorist group in Wadi al-Khas. Three terrorists were reportedly killed.
