On August 6, ISIS al-Nab’a newspaper shared an infographic summarizing the operations carried out by the group’s cells in Iraq between July 29 and August 4.
According to al-Nab’a, ISIS cells carried out during these seven days a total of 41 operations, including 11 raids, 3 assassinations and 22 attacks with improvised explosive devices. The operations took place as follow:
- 11 operations in the eastern province of Diyala;
- 11 operations in the northern province of Kirkuk;
- 8 operations in the northern outskirts of the capital, Baghdad;
- 4 operations in the western province of al-Anbar;
- 3 operations in the northern province of Saladin;
- 4 operations in the northern province of Nineveh.
As a result of the operations, 80 Iraqi government service members and civilians were killed or injured. ISIS cells also destroyed or damaged 27 vehicles, 7 surveillance systems and 23 electricity towers.

An attack on a gathering of the Iraqi Police and pro-government tribal fighters in northern Baghdad on July 31. Around 15 were killed and 20 others were wounded.

A raid on house owned by a pro-government family in al-Anbar on July 31. A policeman and two civilians, allegedly spies for the Iraqi intelligence, were killed.

An attack on a base of the Iraqi military in Diyala on July 31. At least four soldiers were killed and five vehicles were destroyed.

An attack on houses owned by pro-government tribal fighters in Saladin on August 2. At least 7 were killed or wounded. 6 vehicles were also damaged.
There is no doubt that ISIS exaggerated the result of its recent operations in Iraq. Yet, the group is indeed stepping out its operations. The group’s attacks, especially in the northern and western regions, are getting larger, bolder and more frequent.
