The army of Mozambique and private military contractors hired by the government have been able to slow down the expansion of ISIS in the north of the country. Government troops recaptured the district of Muidumbe and prevented ISIS attempts to capture the important town of Mueda. Despite this, a large chunk of the territory in the north of the country remains in the hands of terrorists.
- On December 2 and 3, US Ambassador Nathan A. Sales will discuss ongoing efforts to counter ISIS-linked terrorism with local officials, according to US Department of States;
- As of December 2, government forces with support from foreign military contractors are coducting a combing operation in the district of Muidumbe, which was recaptured from ISIS;
- In late October and early December, the increase of ISIS activity was reported near Mueda town. Government forces deployed there prepare to repel militant attacks.
