On December 16, ISIS terrorists ambushed a group of Iraqi military service members in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala.
The service members came under attack while they were conducting a patrol on foot in the outskirts of Qarah Tapah, a Shiite Turkmen town located in the northern countryside of Diyala.
According to ISIS, three Iraqi service members were killed and four others were wounded as a result of the attack. Local Iraqi officials confirmed the losses, revealing that the victims were attacked by snipers.
ISIS’ official news agency, Amaq, shared photos showing the dead bodies of the victims and three M16 assault rifles which were captured during the attack.
For the last few months, ISIS, which maintain a fairly strong presence in western Iraq, has been working to expand its operations in the eastern and northern regions of the country.
Between November and December, the terrorist group carried out four attacks in the Kurdistan Region. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 personnel of the Peshmerga, the Kurdish branch of the Iraqi Armed Forces, and wounded at least 14 others.
