Over the last few days, ISIS snipers targeted Egyptian Armed Forces personnel and equipment in the Sinai Peninsula.
On November 16, the terrorist group’s snipers damaged an electro-optical, infrared surveillance system installed in the outskirt of the city of Sheikh Zuweid in the northern part of Sinai. Amaq, the news agency of the group, shared a photo of the attack.
On November 17, ISIS snipers targeted two Egyptian service members inside a fortified post in the al-Sayah checkpoint to the west of Rafah city in northern Sinai. Photos released by Amaq confirm that the post was hit.
ISIS have been active in Sinai for more than six years now. The terrorist group’s cells are mainly present in the northern part of the peninsula.
After sustaining serious losses as a result of repeated Egyptian military and security operations, ISIS cells in Sinai are now limiting their attacks. Starting this year, terrorists began relying more and more on improvised explosive devices, snipers and small-scale raids.
Despite inflicting some losses on Egyptian government forces, ISIS cells in Sinai remain incapable of holding ground or plotting large-scale attacks.
