On January 6, three soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed and two others were wounded in an attack that was carried out by ISIS cells in central Syria, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
ISIS terrorist ambushed a vehicle that carrying the five service members as it was passing near the town of al-Resafa in the southern countryside of Raqqa. The terrorists targeted the vehicle with their assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.
In response to the attack, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a series of airstrikes on ISIS’ hideouts, equipment and terrorists near al-Resafa.
This was the second such attack this week. On January 2, five soldiers of the SAA were killed and 20 others were wounded when ISIS terrorists attacked a bus that was transporting them near the T3 station in the eastern countryside of Homs.
Last year, ISIS managed to expand its influence in central Syria to some extent. However, a series of operations by the SAA and its allies kept the terrorist group away from all urban centers and key roads in the region.
According to a recent report by the London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper, a Russian-backed large-scale military operation against ISIS cells in central Syria will start soon. The operation is meant to improve the security situation in the region.
Another symbolic gimmick bythe Russians as well as the attacked bus was an again and again no learner.
