ISIS wing in Nigeria, the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP), continues to carry out attacks against the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF) in the northeastern state of Borno.
On February 14, ISWAP terrorists ambushed a patrol of the NAF near the town of Wulgo. The Amaq news agency said that three Nigerian service members were killed in the attack. Others were reportedly wounded. Amaq shared footage from the ambush on February 20.
On February 14 and 15, the terrorists also shelled a base of the NAF in Wulgo with mortars. According to Amaq, seven service members were killed or wounded.
For more than a year now, ISWAP has been expanding its influence in Nigeria’s northeastern region, mainly in the states of Borno and Yobe, with much success.
Nigerian government forces conduct operations against ISWAP cells in the northeastern region on a regular bases. Despite of this, the terrorist group appears to be getting stronger and bolder. The region is now a de-facto stronghold of the group.
