ISIS Terrorists Captured Two Military Camps In Nigeria’s Borno, Killed 30 Soldiers (Photos)

On November 23, ISIS announced through its official news agency, Amaq, that its branch in Nigeria, the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP), had captured two military camps in the northeastern state of Borno from the Nigerian Armed Forces (NAF).

ISWAP terrorists stormed the two camps, which are located in the key town of Mallam Fatori, on November 19. NAF troops clashed with the terrorists. However, they were eventually driven out from the camps. According to Amaq, 30 soldiers were killed and 30 others were wounded during the battle.

Amaq released photos from the large-scale attack on November 25. The photos show ISWAP terrorists advancing inside the two camps and setting several buildings on fire.

ISWAP has been expanding its influence in Nigeria’s northeastern region, mainly in the states of Borno and Yobe, with much success for well over a year now. The terrorist group appears to be determined to turn the whole region into its main stronghold in the country.

Despite a recent increase in counter-terrorism operation, Nigerian government forces efforts to end ISWAP presence in the northeastern region are not paying off. The terrorist group’s insurgency in the country will apparently continue for the long term.
