On December 18, ISIS cells in Syria’s central region carried out two attacks against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies.
In the first attack, the terrorists opened fire from their machine guns at a vehicle of the SAA that was moving on a road near the town of Dibsi ‘Afnan in the southwestern countryside of Raqqa. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, two service members were killed and three others were wounded in the attack.
In the second attack, the terrorist targeted a vehicle of Iranian-backed forces near the area of Faydat ibn Muyn’a in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor with an anti-tank guided missile. Four Iranian-backed foreign fighters, likely Afghans or Iraqis, were allegedly killed in the attack.
A day earlier, ISIS cells killed a service member of the SAA’s 5th Crops and wounded four fighters of the National Defense Forces in two separate attacks in Deir Ezzor.
The terrorist group has been expanding its presence in the government-held parts of Deir Ezzor and Raqqa for the last few months, despite facing much pressure from the SAA and its allies.
The SAA and its allies will likely adopt new, strict measures in order to drive ISIS out from the deserts of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor as soon as possible.
