Early on October 15, ISIS terrorists launched a large-scale operation on positions located around the town of Resafa in the southern countryside of Raqqa.
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies were able to repel the attack after clashing with the terrorists for a few hours. Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) provided the army with close air support.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, eight SAA soldiers and Syrian pro-government fighters were killed in the course of the attack.
Resafa is located on the main highway linking Raqqa with Hama. The town is also linked via roads with Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria and Aleppo in the northern region of the country.
Pro-government activists said that ISIS terrorists launched the attack from their hideouts in the al-Bishri mount that lays along the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. The terrorists allegedly received support from US-backed fighters based in the southeastern area of al-Tanf before launching the attack.
The attack was one of ISIS’ largest operations in central Syria this year. The terrorist group’s news agency, Amaq, has not yet reported on the attack.
ISIS cells have been working to expand their influence in central Syria for well over a year now, to no avail. The repeated combing operations by the SAA and the VKS’ intense airstrikes inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist group.

Uh, no, that is your wishful thinking. SAA takes enormous casualties and even their own followers recognize this. Only Western weirdos pretend there are not massive deaths in SAA over past 10 years.
