On September 9, ISIS cells attacked a group of shepherds near the town of al-Sholah in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The state-run news agency said that six shepherds were killed and two others were wounded during the terrorist group’s attack.

“The terrorists mutilated the bodies of the shepherds, burned their vehicles, and looted some of the sheep,” the agency said in a report.

ISIS cells in central Syria stepped up their attacks in the last few months, killing or wounding dozens of civilians and military personnel.

The terrorists abducted three sheepherders, stole 400 sheep and set a tractor on fire during an attack near the town of Madan Atiq in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor on July 29. Later on July 31, the terrorists ambushed an oil shipment of the government near the town of al-Saan in the eastern Hama countryside. Six oil tankers were destroyed during the attack, which also claimed the lives of five soldiers and two civilian drivers.

On August 10, the terrorists attacked a Syrian military bus near the T2 Pumping Station in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside. At least 33 soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack.

Several waves of Russian airstrikes hit ISIS hideouts in central Syria after the previous attacks. The SAA also conducted a large-scale combing operation between the eastern Homs countryside and the western countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Despite these efforts, ISIS insurgency is still ongoing. The terrorists are likely receiving support from their comrades in the northeastern region and the southeastern area of al-Tanf, which are controlled by the United States-led coalition and its proxies.
