On June 5, the ISIS news agency Amaq released photos of a recent attack on a gathering of the tribal Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar.
ISIS terrorists raided the gathering, which was being held near the town of Kyas. During the raid, the terrorists killed at least one tribal fighter. Two other fighters were captured and then executed by the terrorists.
The terrorists captured a hand gun, two AKM-type assault rifles as well as at least four pick-up trucks in the course of the raid.
The tribal PMU is responsible for securing several key areas in western, northern and eastern Iraq. ISIS cells attack the tribal force, especially Sunni fighters, on a regular basis.
ISIS maintains a strong presence in al-Anbar. The province’s large desert is a stronghold of the group. Iraqi government forces conduct security operations in the province on a regular basis. Yet, more efforts appear to be needed.
as long as US is still present in iraq, and in the region, shit like this will keep happening
@WithinSyriaBlog : “ISIS will continue to have influence in northeast Syria, western Deir Ezzor and eastern Homs as long as the SAARussiaIran and the SDFUS-led coalition are not coordinating …”
