The debris from a Russian Iskander-M missile fell out of the designated test area, the Kazakhstan Ministry of Defense reported.
On January 9th, 2020, during the planned exercises at the test center of the Russian Ministry of Defense, which is leasing landfills in the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the interstate agreement between Kazakhstan and Russia of 1995, the debris of one of the missiles fell outside the designated areas.
There was no explosion. In the area of the fall in the Bayganinsky district of the Aktobe region there were no victims and there was no damage to any property. The situation presented no danger to the population.
The launch of missiles using facilities on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan was carried out in accordance with the annual plan and schedule of the exercises.
The area where the debris fell was cordoned off by the police. In accordance with this agreement, the clarification of circumstances and reasons will be carried out by the Kazakh-Russian commission under the akimat of the Aktobe region.
There were photographs showing the site where the debris fell, as well as estimations of the shortest range of the Iskander-M ballistic missile, which according to an analysis is approximately 630 kilometers.
According to expert Evgeniy Maksimov, the missile is most likely the 9K720 Iskander-M.
If the information provided by the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan on launching a rocket from the “test center of the Russian Ministry of Defense, which is leasing landfills in the Republic of Kazakhstan” is true, then, the launch was made from the 4th State Central Interspecific Testing Ground of the Russian Federation (4 GTsMP, Kapustin Yar), from the testing center in the territory of Atyrau and West Kazakhstan regions of Kazakhstan.
The distance from the borders of this firing range to the place of the rocket’s fall in the Baiganinsky district of the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan is arond 620-630 km, and the actual launch distance, apparently, confidently exceeded 650 km. Which means that the Iskander-M can fly further than the originally reported maximum range of 500 km.
Which would mean that the Iskander-M would potentially be in breach of the now defunct INF Treaty (already dead), which prohibited short-range missiles with a range between 500 and 1,000 km and intermediate-range missiles with a range between 1,000 and 5,500 km.
MORE ON THE TOPIC:
and what?
“Which means that the Iskander-M can fly further than the originally reported maximum range of 500 km” Nothing new at all. Russians love to under-report capabilities of their weapons. If official range of Iskander was 500km (because of INF treaty limitations), it is now 650+km.
In other words tactical nukes can hit NATO troops even in Germany from Kaliningrad with no problem at all (and whole Poland, Ukraine is covered with immediate tactical nuke response also) While Mach12 “Kinzhal” has official 3000 km range for the moment. With that speed and range all NATO East European bases, military airports, can be destroyed (nuked) within few minutes max. time.
This could also be another part of the warning to the West that President Putin made during the recent naval exercise.
The Western warmongers now have to realise that their citizens now know that THEY will be in harms way if the US manages to start a real war in Europe.
Florian I agree with you for that to be a “warning” but that is exactly the core of the problem. That warning only concerns – EUropeans.
Since “INF treaty” doesn’t exist now US has deliberately opened Europe’s vulnerability to potential medium range nuke weapons race competition. US have simply removed any “INF”protection they had before.
And by doing that US is now forcing them to consider buying ultra expensive anti missile systems like THAAD and Patriot to protect themselves against Russian tactical and medium range nukes. That will be soon positioned to respond on US cruise missiles that fit perfectly in the universal launchers of ABM systems situated in Romania and Poland… That is pre-calculated to re-start cold war type competition but this time on European ground only.
That makes importance of NATO more relevant, helps in selling ultra expensive US missile defense systems and makes Europe once again theater of possible war (far away of main instigator US)
I agree.
The US though is vulnerable to attack with the new generation Russian missiles and after that the older missiles if they are needed.
WW3 will not be a war where the US is the untouched ‘weapons factory’ of the world. It will also be burned.
Boris failed to notice, as he appears to believe in personal colonic irrigation, where his nose and Trump are concerned.
Yep, they’re testing their non-INF missiles.
I bet these rusty russkie iskander’s are just as effective as those horribly ineffective iranian missiles that barely scratched al-assad airbase :D
So? could be a new variant, Russia said they would expand the range of the Iskander-M, since the INF treaty is dead, but only make it operational if the US where to install long range missiles in the EU. Besides Russia also has the airborne Kinzhal now, range 3000 km and speed Mach12. The Kinzhal will also be made sea and land borne.
It is not new “variant”. It is just simple upgrade that among other things extends range since ther is no more “INF treaty” limitation.
Iskander-M* M= stands for “modernization” on ALL Russian weapons systems.
Sounds like they just expanded the fuel compartment by 10%….advantage of heavily modular designs.
Yes
Have Trump or his advisor issued any statements about retaliation yet?
Trump: We will not let this unprovoked Russian ICBM attack that has killed hundreds in the Republic of Kazakhstan go unpunished.

It was hacked!
Just to send old rubber chops Putin that his missiles are steam driven crap
“the missile is most likely the 9K720 Iskander-M.”(c) “Which would mean that the Iskander-M would potentially be in breach of the now defunct INF Treaty (already dead), which prohibited short-range missiles with a range between 500 and 1,000 km and intermediate-range missiles with a range between 1,000 and 5,500 km.”(c)
Theresa, is that you? Let me clarify the situation. INF Treaty is officially dead. US tested cruise missile flying over 500km with 20 days after announcing that they withdraw from INF. After that Russia officially announced its withdrawal from INF in answer to US move. It was also announced that in answer to US tests of such weapons Russia will develop missiles that we in the past forbidden by INF. Your “most likely” is a pure speculation. Why don’t you assume that it was a new modification with increased range?
But this iskander was able to fly over 500 kms also during existance of INF. This was one of reasons why yanks finished with INF. Russia broke the treaty. Similarly, like decades ago with SS-20. And in that time there were same bullshits in soviet propqaganda, as what you write here.
You are a perfect commie! :DDD
Just as well the US cancelled the INF Treaty. Wonder how the police reacted to the call out?
So why did it all go wrong and how far off target was it ?.
Hacked!
