A Su-22 warplane of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) crashed in the southern Iranian province of Fars on November 11, according to an official statement of the IRGC.
A pilot of the warplane died in the incident caused by technical problems during exercises.
The Su-22 is an export modification of Soviet Su-17M2 fighter-bomber produced in 1970-1980s. Iran faces significant technical problems with its air fleet because of UN sanctions, which ban warplanes sales to the country. This pushes Iran to maintain old-fashioned warplanes like Su-22.
Rest in peace the pilot. Condolences to the family and countrymen.
:((( I hope the cause of the crash is found quickly and corrected on all other planes to prevent this from occuring again.
The cause of the crash is that Iran needs new planes.
Sad news. Rest in peace.
Jesus, even Syria got SU-24s
How does Iran even get spare parts for these aircraft?
