Israel has finalized a deal to buy an additional batch of F-35 stealth warplanes from the US, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced on Sunday.
With the implementation of the deal, the Israel Air Force will have two squadrons of these advanced fighter jets. The delivery of F-35s will be completed by December 2024.
Israel has already ordered 33 of the world’s most expensive warplanes. 17 additional jets will bring the total of F35s that Israel seeks to obtain to 50.
Israel has already had five F-35 “Adir” jets. It will receive an additional two F-35s next week and two more jets by November. This will bring the total of F-35s in the Israeli Air Force to 9.
According to Israeli sources, the Israeli Air Force is expected to announce initial operation capability of the first squadron by December 7.

Forget your comparisons, please give me some stats showing us that F-35 is superior to Suk 35, besides the usual BS about stealth and electronics. WVR, Suk35 would eat F35 for lunch every time. And in BVR, F35 carrying only 4 missiles is supposed to kill a highly maneuverable aircraft from 70-100 kms?

Nobody really knows how a contest between the SU35 and the F35 would go. F35 has fantastic avionics, stealth shape and radar absorbent covering plus targeting radar range, but is not very manouverable, doesn’t carry as many weapons and had to face many compromises in its design. The SU35 is not a stealth fighter, but has incredible handling and manouverability, phased array radar, air to air missiles, ceiling speed and climbing ability. The unknown factors are the target acquisition systems and electronic warfare technology. But judging by the recent disabling of the USS Donald Cook by a Russian plane’s EW, there could be some very big surprises in store . .

F35 is made so it can approach enemy aircraft undetected, fire its missiles and leave the scene. It is not designed to engage in WVR combat. We saw in Syria that US did not feel comfortable displaying the stealth “prowess”, the reality of the matter is, Russian EW and radar would identify and jam these planes making them useless. Have you heard what happened to NATO ships in the Black Sea relying on hacked GPS information? US is spending trillions of dollars developing technologically “advanced ” weapons that are succeptible to weather conditions, high maintenance and good old jamming. Suk 35 using jamming technology can get close to the F35 and engage it in a WVR combat, where the F35 is dead meat. Russia does not need a lot of Suk 57, perfecting EW capabilities would render F35 rather useless and defenseless even against MIG 29.

Actually, in this specific case you do not have the right of it. F35 has stealth capabilities wich are embedded within its design, the placements of exhausts (heat signature) and its paint coating. I do not know if ECM are also part of its stealth capabilities.
How effective, that remains to be seen. As the Israelis will buy or get the real deal, not an export version, the real capabilities of the aircraft (depending which of the three types they buy) will become clear once there are real confrontations somewhere involving F35. As the parts are from all over the world (well, almost) in a way much of the West will be instrumental in defending Israel.
From what I can gather the F-35 does not have the same stealth capabilities of the B-2 and the F-22. It’s more…., stealthish. Which in a way is logical. Its too much a Jack of all trades. It’s got to be an F-16 replacement as a fighterbomber, replace the F/A-18C/D’s from the US Navy and USMC, the Harriers of the USMC, land on carriers, both regular and VTOL. And have stealth too.
Whether or not the IDF will get the export version or the real deal probably matters not that much, as the Israelis seem to prefer installing their own avionics into their aircraft. Which is smart thinking in case they were ever on the receiving end of a US embargo. And I highly doubt they will want the USMC VTOL version or the USN carrier version. What need would they have for them?
