Starting on April 14th and continuing until the evening of April 15th, Israel celebrated its Independence Day.
And what better way to commemorate the event than by exchanging fire with the Gaza Strip.
In the late hours of April 15th, and early hours of April 16th, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that a rocket had been fired at southern Israel from Gaza.
A statement by the Israel Defense Forces said alerts went off in the city of Sderot and the surrounding area. The IDF confirmed a few minutes later that a rocket had been launched. The projectile landed in an open area and did not cause damages or injuries.
An Israel Defense Forces statement said fighter jets and other aircraft hit a number of sites linked to Hamas. The targets included an armaments production facility, a tunnel for smuggling weaponry and a Hamas military post, according to the IDF.
“The attack was carried out as a response to the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory earlier this evening,” the statement said.
In response to the rocket fired from Gaza at Israel earlier tonight, IDF fighter jets and attack helicopters just struck a Hamas weapons manufacturing site, a weapon smuggling tunnel and a military post.

The military did not specifically blame Hamas for the rocket fire, but Israel has stressed it holds the group responsible for all aggression that comes out of Gaza.
The rocket struck a field northeast of Gaza, causing neither injury nor damage.
The rocket attack triggered sirens in the town of Sderot and the nearby communities of Nir Am and Ibim.
On March 23rd, during Israel’s last national elections, a Gazan terror faction fired a rocket at Beersheva, soon after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had campaigned in the southern Negev city. That rocket set off localized warnings nearby the city. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
In response, the Israel Air Force bombed an alleged rocket-production site and a military post belonging to Hamas in Gaza. It released a statement holding Hamas responsible for “all events transpiring in the Gaza Strip,” adding that Hamas “will bear the consequences of terror activity against Israeli civilians.”
The attack was the sole incident of projectile fire from Gaza in March, while no rockets were fired in February, according to data from the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency.
