Israel’s Foreign Israel Katz and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on April 10 both threatened that if Iran launches strikes from its own territory then Israel would attack inside Iran.
Katz posted in Hebrew to his official account on the X social platform, formerly known as Twitter, that “If Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will react and attack in Iran.”
The minister then repeated the same warning in a Persian-language post and tagged the official X account of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Later, Gallant warned, while speaking to troops at an Iron Dome air defense system battery in northern Israel, that any attack on the country would face a strong defense, before a “powerful response in its territory.”
“In this war, we are being attacked from more than one front… from different directions. Any enemy that tries to attack us, will first of all be met with a strong defense,” Gallant said. “But we will know how to react very quickly with a decisive offensive action against the territory of whoever attacks our territory, no matter where it is, in the entire Middle East.
The defense minister went on to warn that a potential Israeli response would be “very, very effective, very powerful. One of the things we excel at over the years is that the enemy never knows what surprises we are preparing for it.”
Tensions between Iran and Israel have been on the rise since the April 1 attack on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
At least 13 were killed in the attack. Seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members were among the victims, including two senior commanders of the Quds Force, Brigadier Generals Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.
Katz and Gallant warnings came after Khamenei said that Israel “must be punished and it shall be” for the attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
“When the Zionist regime attacks an Iranian consulate in Syria, it is as if it has attacked Iranian soil. That malicious regime has made a wrong move,” the Iranian Supreme Leader said. “It should be punished, and it will be punished.”
According to recent reports, Iran may launch retaliatory strikes from its territory against targets inside Israel using suicide drones and cruise missile.
There have also been reports about an Iranian offer to the United States to cancel an attack on Israel in exchange for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where more than 33,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since the war first broke out last October.
