The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out major airstrikes in recent days against Hezbollah, in hopes of pushing the group away from Israel’s border with Lebanon, spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said on December 29.
“In the last two days, we completed a series of widespread strikes by fighter jets, tanks and artillery on Hezbollah targets,” Hagari said in an evening press conference.
“Targets were hit in all areas of Lebanon, including rocket launch sites, military compounds and terror infrastructure. Additionally, we struck terror cells and killed terrorists on the ground and in buildings,” he added.
The spokesman said that the IDF will continue to carry out intense attacks and damage Hezbollah deployment near the Israeli border.
He alleged that the group’s deployment in southern Lebanon “no longer looks the same as it did on October 6, and it will never be the same again.”
Hezbollah and its allies have been launching attacks against the IDF from southern Lebanon since Israeli war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip first broke out after the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack.
The group carried out at least eight attacks on December 29, targeting positions, surveillance equipment and troops gatherings of the IDF.
The IDF carried out a wave of strikes against the group on the same day. Early on December 30, a second wave of strikes hit southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah didn’t report any casualties on December 29. However, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a close ally of the Lebanese group, announced that two of its fighters, one from Lebanon and another from Syria, were killed in southern Lebanon.
So far, the clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border have resulted in four civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. On the Lebanese side, more than 150 have been killed. The toll includes 120 Hezbollah members, ten of whom were killed in Syria, 18 Palestinian fighters, at least 19 civilians and three journalists.
