Late on November 21, the Israeli Defense Forces said that a ballistic missile launched from Yemen was successfully intercepted by its air defenses.
According to the military, the missile was shot down outside of Israel’s borders. Warning sirens had sounded in the Dead Sea area as a precaution and amid fears of falling shrapnel. Loud blasts were reported. However, no impacts or casualties were reported after the alleged interception.
The Iran-backed Houthis (Ansar Allah) were likely behind the missile attack. The group carried out a similar attack just two weeks earlier.
The missile attack came just hours after Yemeni media reported that another MQ-9 Reaper combat drone of the United States military was shot down by Houthi air defenses over the northern Yemeni province of Saada. If confirmed, this would be the 13th such drone to be taken down by the group since the start of its military campaign against Israel and its allies in response to the war on the Gaza Strip.
Since November, the Houthis have attacked over 200 vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
The group also launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel and shot down at least 12 American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also launched two waves of strikes against civilian infrastructure in al-Hodeidah in July and September. However, this campaign has failed to deter the Houthis or degrade their military capabilities.

one shouldn’t mock the afflicted. i used to work at a zoo and we held a daily chimps’ tea party. sometimes the chimps would get bored with spectators staring at them and would start throwing mud and muck at visitors. hugely entertaining. more entertaining than “snowden” anyway.
somehow the houtis started to become proficient at shooting american drones from september 2024. after the kursk incusion it seems.
