Hezbollah launched dozens of “Katyusha” rockets at the northern Israeli settlement of Meron on March 10, in response to a strike by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that killed a family in southern Lebanon a day earlier.
Hebrew media said two salvos, one with 30 rockets and another with only seven, targeted Meron. Only seven rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. There were no reports of casualties, however.
In a statement, Hezbollah said that the attack was a direct response to the IDF’s strike a day earlier on the town of Khirbet Selm. Five members of the same family were killed in the strike. The father and two of his adult sons were fighters in the ranks of the group.
The rocket fire was followed by a series of attacks that targeted IDF sites from the border with Lebanon to the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Hezbollah announced ten attacks in separate statements. The group said that its fighters targeted an artillery position of the IDF near the Arar site with two suicide drones. It also announced strikes against surveillance systems and other equipment in the sites of Ramia and Radar.
In addition, Hezbollah said its fighters targeted a gathering of Israeli troops in the site of Birkat Risha and fired Burkan heavy improvised rockets at another gathering in al-Rahib site. The group fighters also targeted a Namer armored personnel carrier in the al-Malikiyah site with an Iranian-made Almas anti-tank guided missile.
Moreover, the group fired two salvos of rockets at the Maale Golan barracks and shelled the sites of Ramtha and al-Samaqa.
The IDF confirmed that ten rockets were fired in the direction of the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms, while Hebrew media reported another rocket attack in the direction of the Golan Heights. There were no reports of casualties in either area.
In response to Hezbollah’s latest attacks, the IDF said it struck and killed an anti-tank missile squad of the group in southern Lebanon’s Chebaa.
After the strike, Lebanese media didn’t report any civilian casualties and Hezbollah didn’t announce any additional losses.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in seven civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 300 people have been killed, including 225 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 50 civilians.
