On October 31, the Israeli Army claimed it had begun a battle with Hamas in the underground tunnels in the Gaza Strip. The official message by the IDF press service claims the elimination of military equipment on underground tracks.
Moreover, according to the Israeli military, a total of 300 ‘Hamas targets’ were hit over the past day.
“Over the last day, combined IDF combat forces struck approximately 300 targets, including anti-tank missile and rocket launch posts below shafts, as well as military compounds inside underground tunnels belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization,” the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
Militants responded with anti-tank missiles and machine gun fire, it added.
“The soldiers killed terrorists and directed air forces to real-time strikes on targets and terror infrastructure,” the IDF said.
In their turn, Hamas released the footage of one of the clashes between Palestinian fighters and the IDF units that entered Gaza.
A Palestinian reconnaissance drone spotted a large group of Israeli soldiers gathering in a pit surrounded on all sides by Merkava tanks. Hamas militants approached the Israeli military in their tunnels and fired at the group with grenade launchers and small arms. Fire is seen as a result of the attack. Apparently, one of the tanks was damaged or destroyed by fire.
Israeli forces made a strategic mistake. Gathering all together, they become easy targets for Hamas fighters, including for drone strikes. However, Hamas fighters are yet to reveal if they have enough attack UAVs to pose threat to Israeli groups.
Tunnels used by Hamas in the Gaza Strip are the main obstacle for any offensive operations of the IDF in the region. A total of 400 km of tunnels have been dug in the northern part of Gaza alone, and in some places motorcycles and cars can move through the tunnel.

i am at the point, based on another highly credible source that israel is backing away from invading gaza.even if tunnels do exist as elaborate as reported by msm i doubt these tunnels would be easily found and destroyed. in the vietnam war tunnels were elaborate and had many entrances/exits making them hard to locate. i think so much has been made of these tunnels that focus on hostages has been ignored.

the statement the idf made a “strategic” mistake in staying together is wrong. what is the alternative? well, going singly. like that, however, tanks and soldiers could be taken out even easier. against an enemy, that uses mostly small arms from hideout it’s tactically right to amass. e.g. if one tank is targeted, the other can quickly respond against the attacker.
the palestinians don’t have an airforce or similar weapons that could target an agglomeration of personell and material. still, even when keeping together, the idf is being defeated. that shows that they really have no good way of dealing with the palestinian resistance.
