The Israeli military said early on August 25 that its warplanes had struck several Iranian military positions near the town of Aqraba south of the Syrian capital, Damascus, preventing a large attack on its territory.
According to the Israeli military’s claims, operatives of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated units were preparing to launch several armed drones at Israeli positions.
“The IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] is prepared to continue defending the State of Israel against any attempts to harm it and holds Iran and the Syrian regime directly responsible for the thwarted attack,” the Israeli Air Force (IAF) wrote on Twitter.
Syrian sources reported several explosions in the vicinity of Damascus in the late hours of August 24. Several anti-aircraft missiles were also launched by the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF).
A Syrian military official told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) the SyAADF was able to intercept several hostile missiles.
“At 23:30 our air-defense systems detected hostile targets coming from above the Golan Heights towards the vicinity of Damascus … So far, most of the hostile Israel missiles have been destroyed before they could reach their targets,” the official said.
The situation is expected to escalate further. Israeli sources reported that the Iron Dome anti-rocket system was deployed in the northern part of the country, while Syrian activists are talking about possible casualties.

Israel has also been hitting Iranian targets in Iraq too if anyone’s unaware, but also very strangely, Hezbollah media sources have recently reported that an Israeli recon drone recently fell out of the sky onto the roof of the Hezbollah media wings offices, and that Hezbollah are still in possession of it. They also say another Israeli drone was sent in 45 minutes after the first one, but it mysteriously blew up in the air without being fired upon, was it perhaps an Israeli self destruct mechanism that brought down the second drone, or was it some sort of Iranian EW countermeasure that brought them both down. New Iranian AA systems as well as new EW countermeasures, wouldn’t that be nice, it probably isn’t the case and I’m just speculating aloud, but it would be great news if that is what really happened, but not great news for the Zionist Israelis though, I can imagine they’d be taking that sort of news very badly indeed.
