The Israeli “Lahav Or” (Blade of Light) laser system was tested along the Gaza Strip starting from January 30th.

Initially revealed in late December 2019, the laser system is specifically aimed at countering explosive balloons and multicopters.

The first reports said that the system could be tested in the field around Summer 2020, but the recent escalation in Gaza, which is seeing a lot of explosive balloons being launched appear to have created the prerequisite needed to test the system.

The system was created to be used by the Israeli Border Police and the Gaza division of the military.

According to the Israeli TV Channel Kan-11, over the past three weeks, with the help of the laser system, about 70 explosive balloons had been destroyed.

So far, the system is reportedly successfully passing its tests, and it will return to development and it is expected for it to enter effective combat duty sometime in the summer.

The system was able to successfully intercept over 90% of the balloons detected in its test. This is an unprecedented success for the world’s first operating laser system for balloon interception.

The system operates day and night and aims to deal with the threat of explosive and incendiary balloons with a laser beam that is launched at the target and neutralizes it without jeopardizing other elements in the area.

As of February 6th, several publications began reporting on the system. These included more footage of the system.

It was also indicated that the “Blade of Light” is interfaced with the SupervisIR target detection system developed by Elbit Systems. The system is a thermal imager with a panoramic view of 90×12.5 degrees, equal to “150 conventional thermal imagers deployed next to each other”.

The system also includes advanced automatic detection and extracting imagery feeds of targets in multiple regions of Interest. Visual investigation can be done in real time, or using a video on demand control, which can be used for backtracking the target to any point.

Albatros

What if they were to use reflective baloons in misty weather?

Jake321

Israel will just lower their aim at the guys lunching the balloons.

Albatros

If they could do it they wouldn’t waste time with baloon destroyer.

Jake321

Sometimes the Israelis are to kind to their enemies.

Albatros

Sometimes power of Israel is overestimated.

<>

Now everything is ready for the Gaza operation, just need the order!

good american

They will use a floating disco ball and ruin your party.

Jake321

Sure, and I’m sure they will float that ball over their Friday rioters doing Israel’s job for them.

omrizkiblog

HEAVILY subsidized by US TAX Payers.

Jake321

Maybe. And the US gets in return rights to the bigger version that takes down missiles, rockets and planes. Oh, and a new portable version that can be used to take down and out more top Iranian generals.

Kananda

Primitive technology. my laser pointer does the same and i can it keep in my hand. :))))

goingbrokes

Just understand this is not a battlefield weapon. Yes they probably can shoot down balloons (ROFL) that come from predictable directions from an enemy that has no capability to respond militarily. Even then it will probably underperform. Imagine this being used on a battlefield. After a couple of shots the juice runs out and grunts will run around changing cells and starting generators or trying to connect cables. It’d be a joker show. No, my guess is this has nothing to do with balloons. True to form Mossad has developed yet another assassination weapon. This will be used to take out unsuspecting individuals from distance, silently. We will watch out for strange deaths among Palestinians who have been unexpectedly cooked!

Jake321

Sounds like a good use of the technology. Oh, and do note the bigger version on the way will be used to take down missiles and rockets. There are different kinds of battlefields.

Jake321

And wait to see what it does to Hamas infiltrators. Oh, and they are rapidly developing a bigger version that takes down missiles and rockets. Ain’t advanced technology wonderful? But the Palestinians still make the best Hummus and olive oil.

Kire Stojanovski

What a joke! ?????
