On December 8, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had carried out strikes on more than 450 targets in the Gaza Strip over the past day, as ground operations continue.

The sites include military compounds, observation posts, and weapons depots of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions, according to the IDF.

Troops from the 7th Armored Brigade directed several Israeli Air Force drones to carry out strikes against Hamas fighters in the Khan Younis area, the IDF said, adding that the series of strikes lasted some two hours, and “numerous” Hamas fighters were killed.

In another incident, three Hamas fighters who were identified by troops were targeted by another combat drone. The IDF alleged that two were killed, while the third revealed a hideout of additional fighters, from which they planned to fire rockets at Israel.

According to the IDF, the Navy has also been carrying out strikes in Gaza over the past day, using guided munitions and shells. The strikes hit sites belonging to the Hamas naval forces, in central and southern Gaza.

A day earlier, the IDF announced that a few days ago it killed two senior officials in Hamas’s intelligence division, in an airstrike on Gaza.

One of the officials, Abed al-Aziz Rantisi, was responsible for Hamas’s observation capabilities, and was involved in the planning of the October 7 surprise attack, the IDF said. He was killed in a strike on a Hamas intelligence command room, along with Ahmed Ayush, who was a senior operative in Hamas’ observation array in the al-Qarara battalion.

The last wave of Israeli strikes on Gaza claimed the lives of 350 people and left more than 900 wounded, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. It’s worth noting that the death toll in the Strip has already suppressed 17,000.

From its side, the IDF announced the death of four of its soldiers in Gaza in recent hours. One of them was identified as Gal Meir Eisenkot, the son of former chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot. Eisenkot is a minister in the current emergency government in Israel.

The death of the four soldiers brought the toll of Israeli troops killed while taking part in ground operations inside Gaza to 91.

In recent days, the IDF expanded ground operations in northern Gaza, mainly in the city of Beit Lahia and the Jabaliya refugee camp, and launched an offensive in the south, targeting the city of Khan Yunis and nearby areas. However, it is yet to make any significant gains.
