Israel has warned Hezbollah against launching any attack on its territory from Lebanon in a message delivered by the UN, the al-Mayadeen TV reported on July 25.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are expecting an attack by Hezbollah, which lost one of its fighters, Ali Mohsen, in the recent Israeli airstrikes on the Syrian capital of Damascus.
“The content of the Israeli message was that Tel Aviv did not know that Ali Mohsen was present [in the targeted buildings] and did not intend to kill him,” al-Mayadeen quoted a source with knowledge on the matter as saying.
According to the Lebanese channel, Hezbollah rejected the Israeli message. Tel Aviv reportedly sent the message after finding out that the Lebanese group took the decision to respond to the killing of Ali Mohsen.
In the last few days, the IDF reinforced its troops on the separation line. A range of measures to limit movements in the area were also implemented.
Furthermore, Israeli drones started flying at a risky low-altitude over Hezbollah’s strongholds in Southern Lebanon. This stunt appears to be an attempt by Israel to lure the group into shooting down one of its drones instead of carrying out a more serious attack.
Israel is without a doubt worried by Hezbollah’s possible response. The group will likely retaliate in a careful manner. Nevertheless, the situation could quickly spin out of control.
