In a rare admission, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said on June 19 that the Hamas Movement, the de-facto ruler of the Gaza Strip, can’t be eradicated.
“This business of destroying Hamas, making Hamas disappear, it’s simply throwing sand in the eyes of the public,” Hagari told Channel 13 news in an interview.“Hamas is an idea, Hamas is a party. It’s rooted in the hearts of the people, anyone who thinks we can eliminate Hamas is wrong.”
The spokesman went on to warn that “if the [Israeli] government doesn’t find an alternative [Hamas] will remain” in control of Gaza.
The statement triggered Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose office said in a statement that the security cabinet “has defined as one of the war goals the destruction of Hamas’s military and governance capabilities.”
“The IDF is of course committed to this,” the statement added.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit later issued a statement saying the military was committed to the government’s stated war goals, including destroying Hamas’s governing and military abilities, adding that the spokesman was talking about “eradicating Hamas as an ideology and an idea.”
“Any claim otherwise is taking the remarks out of context,” the IDF added.
Following the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack on Israel, which claimed the lives of more than 1,200 Israelis and saw the abduction of more than 200 others, Netanyahu and other senior officials of the country repeatedly vowed to eradicate Hamas.
Hagari’s admission that this goal is impossible to achieve came after the IDF has lost at least 312 troops since the start of ground operations against Hamas in Gaza.
On the Palestinian side, the death toll from the Israeli war reached 37,372, according to the latest statement by the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza. Women and children make up most of the casualties. In addition, most of the Strip has been destroyed by Israeli bombardment.
The admission also highlights the growing disagreement between the Israeli political and military leadership on how to go on with the war amid increasing international pressure. The disagreement first became apparent after the resignation of minister Benny Gantz from the war cabinet earlier this month.

an admission of zionist and usa/uk reasoning for the genocide of 37,372 predominately women and children in gaza with american bombs.
turn it around and asknwhat is needed to send the jews packing for friggin goog! never ever to com3 back!
well, they can, but not with loser leadership. israel is kind of schizo, can’t quite decide if they’re a country or not, but, israel is arming its citizens now instead of exclusively relying on centralized authority and protection. if there is a ‘next time’, a lot of palestinians are going to stop a bullet and there will be no apologies or crying. hamas can hide behind civilians but they can’t hide from the truth.
zionists jews will be eradicated.
if the jews realize they can’t eradicate hamas, ask hamas if they can eradicate the jews and i’m certain they will say, sure it can be easily done.
