A series of strikes hit the Beqaa Valley in northeastern Lebanon late on March 13, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claiming responsibility.

Lebanon’s National News Agency said that the Israeli strikes hit Qusaya barrens and the area of Sha’ara-Janta in the eastern mountain range of Beqaa. The official news agency didn’t report any casualties, or provide any additional details on the attack.

In a brief statement, the IDF said that the strikes targeted a “strategic weapons” manufacturing and storage facility of Hezbollah.

“The IDF will continue to work to remove any threat to the State of Israel,” the military added.

Hebrew media said that the same facility, which is located close to the border Syria, was hit by the IDF more than once in the past. There was no response from Hezbollah.

A ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States last November was supposed to end all clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border by February 18. However, the IDF continues to operate against Hezbollah under the pretext of neutralizing threats to Israel security. In addition, Israeli troops continued to be present at five strategic posts in southern Lebanon.

The latest strikes came as Israel and Lebanon are preparing to start talks to delineate the border between them with mediation from the U.S., France and the United Nations. A recent report by the Times of Israel revealed that the country is even aiming to establish full diplomatic relations with Lebanon.

Hezbollah was deeply weakened by the 14-month confrontation with Israel that it initiated in support of the Gaza Strip following the October 7 Hamas-led attack of 2023. Israel is now trying on capitalize on this by targeting what’s left of the group’s military capabilities while pressuring the Lebanese government into a peace deal.
