Six Israeli soldiers were wounded on December 6 when Hezbollah attacked a position of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) with suicide drones.
Hezbollah said in a statement that the drones targeted a newly-established headquarters of the IDF to the south of the Ya’ara barracks, some two kilometers away from the Israeli-Lebanese border. According to the group, the attack was carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance.”
The IDF said that two soldiers were moderately wounded and four others lightly hurt by shrapnel and smoke inhalation as a result of the attack.
It also claimed that two of the drones launched from southern Lebanon were shot down by the Iron Dome air defense system.
In addition to the drone attack, Hezbollah said that its fighters targeted the Israeli military site of Jal al-Alam with “suitable weapons” and fired Burkan heavy rockets at the sites of Zabdin and Ruwaisat al-Alam along the border.
In response to the attacks, the IDF launched a “widespread” wave of strikes against Hezbollah targeted in southern Lebanon. The targets included rocket launching sites, military compounds and other infrastructure.
Intense strikes targeted the towns of Yaroun and Aitaroun, according to Lebanese media. The strikes caused damage. However, no casualties were reported.
Clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out last October after Hezbollah and its allies began launching attacks against the IDF from southern Lebanon in support of Gaza.
As of December 10, the clashes on the Lebanese front have claimed the lives of 137 people, including six IDF soldiers, 96 fighters of Hezbollah, 13 fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, a soldier from the Lebanese Armed Forces and at least 13 Lebanese civilians.
