On January 19, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had intercepted a drone that entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon via the sea

The drone was downed using the Iron Dome air defense system over the sea near the northern Israeli city Acre, without any sirens sounding, according to the IDF.

Hezbollah, the main foe of Israel in Lebanon, didn’t claim responsibility for the apparent drone attack. However, the group said in three separate statements that its fighters fired Burkan heavy rockets and other projectiles at three gatherings of Israeli troops in the Khirbet Maar base, on top of Mount Nazer and between the military sites of al-Sammaqa and al-Ramtha along the Lebanese border.

The attacks were carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance,” Hezbollah noted in its statements.

In response to the attacks, the IDF announced that its fighter jets carried out a series of airstrikes against targets of Hezbollah, including military buildings and other infrastructure, near the town of Ramyah in southern Lebanon. Lebanese media said that the town was hit by at least a dozen airstrikes, but there were no casualties.

The IDF also said that it had carried out airstrikes and tank shelling against Hezbollah observation positions and other infrastructure in the towns of Houla and Kafr Kila, which are also located in southern Lebanon.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.

As of January 19, the border clashes have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. On the Lebanese side, more than 200 have been killed. The toll includes 151 Hezbollah fighters, 14 of whom were killed in Syria, 26 Palestinians, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 24 civilians.
