On October 8, Israeli troops shot and killed two Palestinians boys while conducting yet another raid in the West Bank city of Jenin.
In a joint statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency said that they had arrested a suspect, 25-year-old Saleh Samir Abu Zina, accused of carrying out shooting attacks on troops in the occupied West Bank, and that clashes broke out during the raid.
A group of Palestinians opened fire at Israeli troops operating in Jenin and targeted them with explosives and Molotov cocktails.
The IDF and the Shin Bet said that their troops “fired at armed men in the area,” and there were a number of individuals hit. However, they didn’t provide any details.
According to the Palestinian official Wafa news agency, two 17-year-old boys were killed by Israeli troops. The boys were identified as Mahmoud Al-Sous and Ahmad Daraghma. At least 11 other Palestinians were wounded during the clashes. Three of them are currently in a critical condition.
The deadly raid in Jenin was the most recent in a series of Israeli security operations in the occupied West Bank. Just a day earlier, two Palestinian boys, 15-year-old Adel Daoud and 17-year-old Mahdi Ladadweh, were killed by the IDF in the region.
The situation in the West Bank has been unstable for several months now. Israel’s attempts to subdue Palestinians in the region, especially in Jenin, with brute force is the main source behind the instability. The situation there will not likely improve any time soon.
