Israeli Army Says It Hit Hezbollah Site In Civilian Area Deep In Lebanon, Shares Footage

On March 20, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released video footage of a recent airstrike against what it said was a Hezbollah weapons depot “in the heart of a civilian neighborhood deep in Lebanon.”

The large and lengthy secondary explosions seen in the video are “further proof of Hezbollah’s modus operandi, in which it stores explosives and dangerous chemical substances in civilian villages,” the IDF said in a statement.

The IDF added that Hezbollah “places its [weapons] production infrastructure in the heart of civilian populations in southern Lebanon, in the Beqaa [Valley] and in Beirut, and uses the Lebanese people as a human shield.”

The IDF didn’t reveal when or where the air strike took place. However, it is very likely that the footage shows one of several Israeli airstrikes that targeted the Beqaa Valley in eastern Lebanon on March 12, resulting in four injuries and the death of one Hezbollah fighter.

Hezbollah and its allies have been launching attacks from southern Lebanon against the IDF since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

The group didn’t announce any attacks on March 20, likely due to poor weather conditions affecting the entire front with Israel.

A day earlier, Hezbollah launched nine attacks from its heartland, southern Lebanon, targeting several sites, troop gatherings and vehicles of the IDF in addition to the settlement of Metula. The group said that the attacks were carried out in response to the war on Gaza and recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon.

So far, the clashes on the border between Hezbollah and the IDF have resulted in seven civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 300 people have been killed, including 228 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 50 civilians.
