The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on March 16 that two Hezbollah fighters were killed in a drone strike on southern Lebanon.
The strike targeted a vehicle near the town of Mays al-Jabal, according to Lebanese media, which reported that one man was killed and another was wounded. Footage posted to social networks after the strike showed the wreckage of the targeted vehicle.
In a statement, the IDF said that the pair were carrying out surveillance on the border and were involved in advancing attacks on Israel from the area between Mays al-Jabal and the nearby town of Yater.
“The terrorists’ activities constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the military added.
A ceasefire agreement brokered by the U.S. last November was supposed to end all clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border by February 18. However, the IDF continues to operate against Hezbollah under the pretext of neutralizing threats to Israel security.
Just a day earlier, a fighter of the group was killed in an Israeli drone strike that targeted his vehicle close to the southern Lebanese town of Borj el-Mlouk.
The agreement also called on Israel to pull its troops out from all of southern Lebanon. Yet, the IDF maintains five strategic posts in the region.
Hezbollah was deeply weakened by the last confrontation with Israel, which broke out as a result of the war on the Gaza Strip. Now, the group appears to be exercising strategic patients. However, this could give Israel time to mount more pressure on Lebanon.
