Early on April 19, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) shelled military positions in the southern Syrian governorate of al-Qunitra, according to Syrian pro-opposition sources.
Two positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were reportedly hit. The first position is located near the town of Saidi al-Hanout and the second on al-Ahmar hill in the nearby town of Kwadana. Both towns are located a few kilometers away from the front with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
No casualties were reported as a result of the IDF shelling. The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency didn’t report the alleged attack.
After the shelling, the IDF dropped leaflets over al-Qunitra, warning the SAA against cooperating with Hezbollah, or hosting operatives of the Lebanese group in its positions on the Golan Heights front, especially near Kwadana.

The IDF later announced that one of its drones, a Skylark, crashed on the Syrian side of the front, adding that there is no fear of information leaking from the device.
The Skylark is a family of reconnaissance drones developed by Israel’s Elbit Systems. The drone that crashed in the West Bank was likely the miniature, hand-launched Skylark I which was designed for tactical surveillance and reconnaissance. This version has a range of 20-40 kilometers.
The IDF shelling on al-Qunitra came following a limited multi-front confrontation that saw the launch of two salvos of rockets from southern Syria at the occupied Golan Heights. Tel Aviv held Damascus responsible for the rare attack and responded by attacking the launched sites as well as several positions of the SAA.
Recent developments highlight the ever-increasing tensions along the Golan Heights front, which may not stay quiet for too long.
