The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on October 28 that it carried out an overnight airstrike against a Hezbollah target in southern Lebanon, in response to rocket fire that targeted Israel a day earlier.
The rockets were aimed at an IDF position in the occupied Golan Heights. However, the rockets ended up landing in Syria. Hezbollah didn’t claim responsibility for the attack.
The Israeli retaliatory airstrike hit the outskirts of the town of Majidieh, according to Lebanese media. No casualties were reported.
From its side, Hezbollah released video footage on October 28 showing an attack that targeted a Merkava main battle tank of the IDF near Avivim barracks three days earlier. The tank received two direct hits with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), most likely Russian-made Kornets.
Hezbollah resumed attacks from southern Lebanon a day earlier after a short pause, targeting six different positions of the IDF with ATGMs and heavy machine guns.
Since the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack from the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah and its allies, including Palestinian armed factions, have had near-daily exchanges of fire with the IDF along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
As of October 28, the clashes on the Lebanon front have claimed the lives of seven Israelis -six soldiers and one civilian- 45 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, seven Palestinian fighters -three from the Hamas Movement and four from the Islamic Jihad- and four Lebanese civilians -two elderly men and two journalists-.
